NYT Connections Hints and Answers : In the New York Times puzzle game Connections, players must identify “connections” between different words and organise them into quartets. To make things easier for you, we have dissected every category and solution for the July 9 Connections puzzle.
You can skip to the end of this post for the July 9 Connections solution if all you want to know is today’s problem. However, if you’d prefer to figure things out on your own, continue reading for some hints, techniques, and ideas.
What is Connections?
The puzzle game “Connections” by NYT is currently all the rage on social media. On sites like X (previously Twitter), among others, you can find people solving problems and sharing their accomplishments and failures. NYT associate puzzle editor Wyna Liu oversees the game. Players in Connections are given sixteen random words to sort into unfamiliar categories.
There are sixteen words in each puzzle, and there are four categories for each group of words. Anything from software names to book titles to nation names could be included in these sets. There is only one right response, although several words will appear to go together.
A set of four words is eliminated from the board if all four words in the set are correctly answered. If a player makes a mistake in their guess, they can make up to four mistakes before the game ends.
Additionally, players can mix and rearrange the board to facilitate link detection. Every group is also colour-coded, with yellow being the easiest and green, blue, and purple following. You can share the outcomes with your friends on social media, just like with Wordle.

Answers for Today’s Connections Game (July 9)
Do you still find the Connections puzzle to be difficult? Then the following are the answers to today’s Connections:
- CHRONICLE – Journal, Log, Record, Register
- MESS OF HAIR – Mane, Mop, Shock, Tangle
- TV SHOWS MINUS “S” – Cheer, Friend, Scrub, Weed
- WORDS AFTER “HEDGE” – Fund, Hog, Maze, Trimmer
Its desire to make a mess of hair and chronicling events was evident in the July 9 NYT Connections puzzle. Since I keep a daily journal, I was familiar with these words before I started solving the Yellow category. These were quite easy to figure out, even though I don’t relate to the Green group because I always have my hair tidy.
Since I’ve seen Freinds and Scrubs consistently, I was able to solve the Blue category really easily. I merged them all, as usual, with just four words remaining to obtain the Purple category and the July 9 NYT Connections.
